September 2011:
Guardians of the Ribbon Pink Fire Truck

On September 9, 2011 the Guardians of the Ribbon from Kansas City, Missouri brought their pink fire truck to the Cedar Valley. They made four stops: the Cedar Falls Panera, Cedar Valley Cancer Center and Breast Care Center, the Covenant Cancer Treatment Center, and the University of Northern Iowa campus in front of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. Their visit was organized by Cedar Falls fire fighter, Captain Rob Inouye.

Rob’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago, and he has become a champion for all women living with breast cancer. He wanted the pink fire truck to come through our area to increase awareness, show community support of those with cancer, and highlight the support the Beyond Pink TEAM offers.

Cancer survivors came from all over to sign the pink fire truck. Many others signed in memory of a loved one they have lost to cancer. It was a very inspirational and emotional day. Rob hopes to get the Cedar Valley on the national tour within the next year or two, which means a fleet of pink fire trucks would come rolling through. Pink Heals!!
