The mission of the newsletter is to provide information, resource listings, and inspiration to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and anyone whose had to face the challenges of dealing with breast cancer. According to a focus group of breast cancer survivors, this is what they needed at the time of their diagnosis but it was not available to them.
Now the Touch of Courage Newsletter is distributed to surgeons' offices, mammography suites, ambulatory surgery centers, and many other sites, as well as to individuals.
Each newsletter consists of a cover story written by a physician or other healthcare professional, local current events, an inspirational story from a breast cancer survivor, information about the support group and IBCE meetings, American Cancer Society activities and Reach to Recovery, plus a list of services and hotlines.
Survivors and patients are encouraged to send us their personal testimonies about dealing with breast cancer, but please do keep in mind that all stories should be sensitive to the fears many newly diagnosed women experience. The information provided must be truthful, yet informative and supportive.
There is no charge to receive the newsletter, although donations are graciously appreciated. The printing costs can be donated by an individual or by an organization which will be acknowledged in the newsletter.
The Chairperson for the Touch of Courage Newsletter is Jeanne Mullen, and she can be contacted at (319) 272-2880 for any information or meeting times and locations.
