|
Are you a young woman that has been diagnosed with cancer, and you think no one knows what it feels like to be in your shoes? Here is an event designed for women who ALL have been in your shoes at one time or another. The "Meet, Mingle and Learn" Young Survivor’s Open House is a free social and educational event to bring young women together who are surviving cancer.
The open house is sponsored by the Beyond Pink TEAM in the hopes of connecting young women with cancer together. The "Meet, Mingle and Learn" Young Survivor’s Open House is Tuesday, April 15 at the Area Education Agency 267 Conference Center in Seminar Room B. The building is located at 3712 Cedar Heights Drive, Cedar Falls. The event is scheduled from 4:30-7 p.m. There will be activities and speakers scheduled throughout the evening, but feel free to come and go as your schedule allows. There will be refreshments and door prizes. Paula Pecenka, one of the Beyond Pink TEAM Members organizing the event, was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 25. She feels the casual nature of the event will appeal to young women. "The event will be very laid back and fun which I believe will suit the young survivors," said Pecenka. "Mingling and learning is the best way to get to know people .We have a busy family life, but we also need to take time for ourselves." The Open House will feature speakers as well as time to socialize. Topics include Nutrition, Body Image and Life after Cancer. Dee Hughes, chairperson of the Beyond Pink TEAM is hoping the event appeals to young women in the community and helps them connect with one another. "The only person that can understand what a young cancer survivor is going through is another young survivor. We are sponsoring this event for young cancer survivors to meet each other, and make friends they can talk to about their unique experiences," Hughes said. "We want young cancer survivors to make a network of support for themselves, and the Beyond Pink TEAM will be there to support them in any way we can."
