| "Plant It Pink" Hope Blooms for Breast Cancer | ||||||
|
In 2007, 2,200 women and men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the state of Iowa. Show your support of breast cancer research and your hope for all those living with breast cancer, by participating in the “Plant it Pink” campaign.
The Beyond Pink TEAM, a program of the Cedar Valley Cancer Committee, is selling Pink Impression tulip bulbs to increase breast cancer awareness by “planting the Cedar Valley pink.” Last October, the committee planted 400 bulbs in front of the Cancer Treatment Center at 200 E. Ridgeway Avenue in Waterloo. Now the goal is to have 2,200 pink tulip bulbs planted during Breast Cancer Awareness Month - October, 2007. The 2,200 bulbs will honor the fight of the 2,200 men and women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Orders are being taken through August 1, 2007. Tulip bulbs can be purchased $10/dozen bulbs, $40/ 50 bulbs or $75/100 bulbs. Plant your bulbs in October, and then in Spring, 2008 flower beds in the Cedar Valley will be brimming with beautiful pink tulips. This is a wonderful opportunity for groups, companies, churches or individuals to join in and show your support for all those affected by breast cancer and your hope for a breast cancer free generation. Order forms have been distributed to many businesses in the Cedar Valley, such as local florists, KWWL-TV, MIX 96 radio station, Covenant Medical Center, Allen Hospital, and the Black Hawk County Health Department. The order form can also be downloaded at ww.cedarvalleybreastcancer.org. All proceeds from the pink tulip bulb sales are used to provide financial assistance to women with breast cancer and other projects of the Beyond Pink TEAM. Assistance may include helping with the cost of diagnostic testing, breast prosthesis fitting and replacement, lymphedema services, babysitting needs for young mothers with breast cancer and other financial hardships families face when battling cancer. For more information about placing orders for tulips call Dee Hughes at 235-3179 or Gabbi DeWitt at 292-2225. Tax deductible donations can be made to the Beyond Pink Fund established at the Community Foundation of Waterloo/Cedar Falls and Northeast Iowa. The Cedar Valley Cancer Committee is a non-profit organization made possible by the collaborative efforts of many health organizations, businesses and dedicated individuals’ throughout the Cedar Valley. The Beyond Pink TEAM focuses on breast cancer in the Cedar Valley. Going beyond pink ribbons, beyond pink light bulbs, beyond pink trinkets; Beyond Pink, we accomplish our mission by Taking action, Education, Advocating and Making a difference. |
